Power Automate plans new desktop-flow controls

Power Automate plans new desktop-flow controls

Microsoft’s updated 2026 release plan lists direct scheduling for desktop flows and a flow-chart view as August public previews. The same plan warns that delivery dates can change and does not mark either feature as released.

Desktop-flow work is often hard to explain and keep running because the schedule and the visible shape of the automation sit outside the flow itself. That leaves makers relying on handover notes and ad-hoc run checks when a Windows-based task becomes someone else’s responsibility. If these previews reach your environment, they could make a scheduled desktop flow easier to operate and troubleshoot, but they do not remove the need for named machine owners, connection checks, and a tested failure path. Treat them as a chance to tighten your operating record, not a reason to move an untested desktop job into production.

Analysis

List the desktop flows that currently depend on a person starting them or explaining their steps. In a non-production environment, check whether either preview has arrived and test it against one documented failure case before relying on it.
