Microsoft stops bundling AI Builder credits with new licences in November 2026

From 1 November 2026, new or renewed Power Platform and Dynamics 365 licences will no longer include seeded AI Builder credits. Anyone who bought or renewed an eligible licence before that date keeps those credits until the current contract ends. New customers must buy Copilot Credits to run AI Builder features. Existing customers can still buy AI Builder capacity add-ons as a renewal or true-up. Microsoft has also discontinued AI Builder trials. Building and testing models, including prompts, does not use credits. Running those models in a flow, app, or agent does. Any flow that uses an AI Builder action is a premium flow. Credits reset on the first of each month and unused capacity does not carry over. When the month is exhausted, model runs stop until more credits are bought or reassigned.
Until now, many teams treated document processing, invoice reading, OCR, classification, and prompts as a bonus that came with the Power Platform licence they already had. A flow could extract pages in testing and look cheap because the seed pool hid the real cost, and a failed run was more often a connector or permission issue than an empty credit bucket. After the cutoff, that pool is a sunset, not a product. New or renewed licences start with no included AI Builder capacity, so a live extraction flow can pass a one-off test and then block mid-month when credits run out. Custom document processing is listed at 100 AI Builder credits per page, or 8 Copilot Credits per page, which makes page volume a budget item rather than a background setting.
Analysis
Treat this as a change to act on before anyone depends on AI extraction for monthly invoices or forms, not as a reason to rebuild every flow. Open your AI Builder and Copilot credit usage, list which live flows call AI Builder actions, and note whether those licences renew after 1 November 2026 so you know which processes will keep running on leftover seed capacity and which need Copilot Credits or a simpler non-AI path.
