Microsoft retires Power Automate RPA developer certification with no replacement

Microsoft retired the Power Automate RPA Developer Associate certification, exam PL-500, on 30 June 2026. Partner Center listings and Microsoft Learn retirement pages mark the credential as closed from that date. No direct successor exam focused on Power Automate Desktop or RPA development has been announced. People who already hold the certification keep their historical status under normal Microsoft credential rules. New candidates can no longer earn PL-500.
For years, PL-500 was the clearest Microsoft badge tied specifically to Power Automate Desktop and attended RPA work. Training plans, partner skill maps, and internal 'who knows automation' shortcuts often pointed at that exam even when day-to-day work was cloud flows in SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook. That signal is gone. Microsoft is not offering a like-for-like RPA associate path in the cited materials, so proof of skill shifts back to working flows, clear ownership, and monitoring rather than a certificate line. Teams that still route learning budgets or hiring filters through PL-500 will be measuring a path that no longer exists.
Analysis
Treat this as a trap to avoid, not a reason to scramble for another badge. If any study plan, job post, or internal checklist still names PL-500, replace it with one concrete reliability check on a flow you already run: confirm the owner, shared connection, and who gets alerted on a failed run.
