Microsoft retires old SharePoint login method that breaks some Power Automate flows

Microsoft ends support for legacy SharePoint authentication known as IDCRL on May 1 2026. This retirement blocks username and password based connections in Power Automate flows that rely on custom connectors or HTTP actions with stored credentials. Affected automations will stop working after the date unless switched to modern OAuth methods through Entra app registrations or the standard SharePoint connector.
Before this deadline many users built simple SharePoint automations with stored credentials that required little setup but often produced the random failures and silent breaks that have plagued flows for years. The retirement forces a shift to official connectors which demand an inventory of existing flows now but deliver more stable connections that reduce the risk of sudden outages in approvals and notifications.
Analysis
This deadline exposes how many beginner flows were built on shaky foundations that Microsoft is finally pulling away. Start by opening every flow that touches SharePoint and replace any custom HTTP or stored credential steps with the standard connector before the end of the month.
