AI drafts hide the leadership work managers still own

AI drafts hide the leadership work managers still own

A newly published Collab365 problem analysis describes a recurring management failure in AI-assisted writing: a draft can sound finished while missing current decisions, trade-offs, stakeholder preferences or a leadership-ready tone. It argues that this context often lives across notes, meetings and prior feedback, so the manager still has to restore it during review.

Fast first drafts can create a false sense of completion. For a non-technical manager, the later check is where factual accuracy, unstated constraints and the actual decision are protected—so AI has not removed accountability; it has made a reliable pre-send review more important. Rather than continually trying better generic prompts, the more repeatable fix is to capture the audience, facts, source owners, priorities and known tone rules before drafting. That gives the AI a bounded brief and gives the manager a consistent way to decide whether to send, revise or bring in a human checker.

Analysis

Before the next leadership update, make a one-page source pack: audience and ask; facts with a source or owner; decisions and constraints; two tone rules; and non-negotiable questions. Ask the AI to draft against it, then label the result Send, Revise or Escalate before you forward it.
