Microsoft says Work IQ APIs will be generally available on June 16, giving agents governed access to Microsoft 365 context, tools and workspaces.

Microsoft announced that Work IQ APIs will reach general availability on June 16, 2026. The APIs include chat, context, tools and workspaces for agents, with tenant-boundary security, auditable actions and a new Microsoft 365 admin center cost management dashboard for Copilot Credits.
SharePoint and Teams admins have long governed access to mail, files, meetings, chats and sites through permissions, policies and admin controls. Agents will increasingly use that same Microsoft 365 context to act on behalf of users or workflows, so this is a governance story as much as a developer story. Admins need visibility into what agents can access, what they can do and how consumption is controlled.

Review who is currently allowed to create agents or connectors, then decide what approval route you want before Work IQ usage and Copilot Credit spend become harder to untangle.
