Windows 11 update breaks logins to Office and OneDrive

Microsoft's March 10 update for Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2 stops users signing into apps including OneDrive, Office, Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams Free and Microsoft 365 Copilot with personal Microsoft accounts. Users get an error saying they need the internet even when online. The issue hits only in certain network conditions and affects personal accounts, not business ones using Entra ID. Restarting while connected may fix it temporarily, but it returns if restarting offline. Microsoft promises an out-of-band patch in days. This follows January patch problems with remote desktop and cloud files, plus March Bluetooth glitches.

Users unable to reach OneDrive files or Office apps pile fresh support tickets on your queue, right when you need focus to tame 300 abandoned Teams channels and build a SharePoint intranet people can actually navigate. Even if your setup runs Entra ID and dodges the worst, the pattern of 2026 update failures, from cloud sync breaks to Bluetooth outages, steals hours from your small IT team that could go toward governance policies and permission cleanups. Copilot will soon surface data from every corner, so any delay risks exposing stale files from those ghost Teams. Prioritise testing updates in a pilot group now, it cuts reaction time from days to hours next time.
