Undocumented Excel logic keeps breaking reports despite new Microsoft tools

Collab365 Spaces published an analysis of a recurring reporting blocker on 15 September 2026. It describes report owners spending on new Microsoft tools and training while monthly reports still depend on undocumented Excel sources, formulas and manual steps. This is a first-party problem analysis, not a new Microsoft product announcement.
Before choosing another reporting tool, an accidental report owner may have no written account of where the current numbers come from, which steps happen by hand, or who can repair a failed refresh. A new platform does not automatically make that hidden logic visible. The Spaces analysis puts the decision back on the existing report: identify its sources, transformations and owner first, then judge whether Excel, Power Query, Power BI or Fabric addresses the actual failure. That gives a finance or operations team a clearer reason to spend—or to postpone a purchase.
