Teams will store AI meeting insight files in SharePoint by default

Microsoft Teams will start generating AI meeting archive files that capture key insights from meetings. The files are meant to give Microsoft 365 Copilot and Facilitator better context after the call ends. The archives will live in tenant-owned SharePoint, not as raw recordings. Microsoft says access is limited to meeting participants, retention is configurable, and admins get controls before rollout. The feature is enabled by default. Rollout is planned for August 2026 under Message Center item MC1429018.
Until now, the main post-meeting artifacts admins had to govern were recordings, transcripts, and chat. Those already create ownership questions, guest access risk, and retention clutter across Teams-connected SharePoint sites. This adds another AI-derived file type into that same storage path. Copilot gets richer meeting memory, but small admin teams inherit more content that can age badly, get overshared through existing meeting membership, and quietly expand the SharePoint surface that later shows up in search, Copilot answers, and cleanup work.
Analysis
Treat this as a default-on content source to contain, not a feature to celebrate. Before August, check the admin controls in Message Center MC1429018 and decide whether these archives follow your current meeting recording retention and external-participant rules, or whether you need a tighter retention setting from day one.
