Teams will let you pause every notification for a set time

Microsoft Teams is adding a control that temporarily pauses all notifications for a period you choose. You start it from the profile menu in the top right. When the timer ends, alerts return under the same preferences you already use. It will work on desktop, web, and mobile. No admin setup is required. Targeted release runs worldwide from mid-September into early October 2026, with general availability through late October, including government clouds. The pause is temporary only. It does not rewrite your lasting notification rules or change how others see your status.
Until now, quieting Teams usually meant permanent preference edits, channel mutes, or Do Not Disturb, which can feel like a public status change and still leaves people unsure they will hear what matters when the block ends. Many busy users leave settings half-configured because every tweak feels permanent. A timed global pause sits between those options. You can shut the noise for a focus block or a meeting stretch, then let the old rules resume without rebuilding them. That is useful only if you treat it as a short session tool, not a substitute for deciding which chats and channels should stay quiet every day.

Treat this as a trap if you use pause instead of fixing channel and chat noise, and as a small win if you pair it with one fixed deep-work window. When the control shows up, try it on your next protected focus block only, leave permanent notification settings untouched, and judge whether Teams feels quieter without missing the few threads you still own.
