Teams turns chat messages into private personal reminders

Microsoft Teams is adding a private Remind me action to chat and channel messages for members and guests. Targeted Release tenants are due to receive it in early October 2026, with general availability planned later that month; reminders are enabled by default and Microsoft provides no tenant-level switch to disable them.
Until now, people who needed to return to a Teams message had to save it, send the link to themselves, create a To Do item, or rely on memory. Those workarounds either lose the original context or add a small personal follow-up to a heavier task system. The new Reminders view keeps the message and its context together, then surfaces a notification at the chosen time. It is useful for work you personally need to revisit, but because reminders are private, it does not replace Planner, Lists, or another shared system when colleagues need a visible owner, status, and deadline.
Analysis
When the feature reaches your tenant, test Remind me on one chat follow-up and one channel post. Keep a simple rule: use reminders for personal follow-up, and move shared commitments into Planner or your team’s agreed task system.
