Microsoft scopes Teams SharePoint search to SharePoint content

Microsoft 365 Message Center item MC1332816 says search inside the Teams SharePoint app, also called Viva Connections, will be scoped to SharePoint content from mid-June 2026. Results and suggestions will come from SharePoint sources while respecting existing permissions. Worldwide rollout is expected to finish by mid-July, with GCC and DoD environments following later. Microsoft says no admin action is required.
Before this rollout, employees using Teams could still miss stale or awkward SharePoint content because search and navigation were spread across chats, channels, files, and the SharePoint app. Weak intranet ownership stayed easier to ignore. Now Teams will give SharePoint content a cleaner search lane inside the app people already use all day. That is useful, but it also raises the cost of neglected pages, old news, and unclear site ownership because the same content becomes easier to surface.
