Teams on the web moves to a new Microsoft address by end of September

Microsoft is redirecting the Teams web client from teams.microsoft.com to teams.cloud.microsoft as it folds more Microsoft 365 apps under the cloud.microsoft domain. Remaining enterprise tenants are due to complete by 30 September 2026, when exception lists go away. Existing bookmarks and links should keep working through automatic redirects. Features stay the same. Tenant admins can still turn the redirect off temporarily until 31 December 2026, after which that control retires from 1 January 2027. Companies need *.cloud.microsoft allowed on proxies, firewalls, secure web gateways, and Conditional Access. Internal guides that hard-code the old address should be updated. Some custom or third-party Teams web experiences built on older SDKs or strict page rules may fail until they are fixed. The desktop app is unaffected as a fallback. Consumer teams.live.com is out of scope.
Until now, opening Teams in a browser meant a familiar microsoft.com address that most company guides, training decks, and pinned shortcuts still assume. Network rules and help pages were written around that habit, so web access felt stable even when the rest of Microsoft 365 kept shifting. What changes is not chat, meetings, or channels, but the front door. If your firm blocks the new domain, the browser path goes dark while desktop may still work. Stale how-to links and embedded web tools can fail without warning. For people who live in Outlook and Teams all day, that shows up as a sudden blank page or a broken internal playbook, not as a new feature to learn.
Analysis
This is a trap to avoid, not a workflow upgrade: confirm Teams still opens cleanly in the browser on your normal network, and treat a blank or blocked page as an IT ticket rather than a personal setup problem. Same day, scan any team onboarding notes or pinned shortcuts you own and point them at the redirect-safe path so colleagues are not left on a dead teams.microsoft.com bookmark after September.
