Teams moves meeting buttons and adds a second step before you share

Microsoft Teams is redesigning the in-meeting control bar and the share panel on Windows desktop, Mac, and web. Controls move to the centre, Leave sits apart from the other buttons, and you can pin up to two apps on the main bar. Sharing gets a two-step confirmation so a single click is less likely to put the wrong window or screen on air. Message Center item MC1317197 ties the work to roadmap items 502520 and 560321. There is no tenant-wide switch to turn the change off. An 11 August 2026 update put meeting-control refresh in late July through mid-August, with redesigned sharing controls starting in September and broader availability running into late September through late October 2026.
Before this, most people ran meetings on fixed muscle memory: same bottom bar, Leave next to other icons, Share one click away. Accidental leaves and wrong-screen shares were common enough to derail the last five minutes of a call and dump cleanup into chat and email. After the rollout, the same jobs still live in Teams, but the hand positions change and share needs a deliberate second step. For anyone who presents, hosts, or jumps meeting to meeting, the win is fewer public mistakes. The cost is a short stretch of hesitation until the new layout becomes automatic, with no admin option to keep the old bar.
Analysis
Treat this as a short adaptation, not a new system to build. Before sharing controls finish rolling in, run one private test call, pin the two controls you actually use, and practise the new Share confirmation and Leave placement once so live meetings do not create extra chat cleanup.
