Teams meetings can send tasks to an existing Planner board

Microsoft is adding a way to connect a Teams meeting to a Planner plan you already have, so follow-up tasks do not have to land in a brand-new plan created for that meeting. Message Center item MC1392571, also listed as Roadmap 561490, says the option is on by default where Teams, Planner, and Loop are all available. If nobody picks a plan, the old behaviour stays. The meeting still gets its own new plan. A July 2026 Message Center note put Targeted Release from late August to mid-September 2026 and general availability from early to late September 2026. That window has already moved. Cloudscout recorded a 10 September 2026 change that pushed the roadmap release from September 2026 to November 2026.
Until now, meeting actions often leaked into a fresh Planner board, a chat, an Outlook flag, and a private note. Recurring work then sat in many small lists instead of the one board the team already used for the project. The useful change is not extra Planner. It is a choice at the meeting: send tasks into the existing plan, or keep spawning a new one. That choice only appears if Loop is in the mix, and the September general-availability date is no longer a date you can plan around.
Analysis
Treat this as a trend to watch, not a system to rebuild this week, because rollout has already slipped toward November. Before it arrives, pick one existing Planner plan for each recurring meeting series and write that plan name in the meeting description so you are not still creating a new list by default.
