Teams delays personal chat reminders until November

Microsoft has pushed personal message reminders in Teams from early October to early November 2026. Targeted Release should finish by mid-November, with general availability from mid-November through December across Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, and DoD. You will be able to set, change, complete, or delete a private reminder on a chat or channel message. Reminders keep the original message context, live in a dedicated Reminders view, and fire toast alerts plus a badge on the Teams chat icon. The feature is on by default, needs no admin setup, and follows your existing Teams notification settings. It is coming to Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. It does not create a Microsoft To Do item the way a flagged email does, and the timing presets (later today, tomorrow, next week) do not use Outlook working hours.
Until now, a Teams message that needed a later reply usually leaked out of Teams. People copied a link into Outlook, flagged an email that was not the real thread, or hoped an unread badge would still mean something after a week of noise. What changes is not a single work list. It is a private snooze inside Teams, separate from To Do, Planner, and Outlook flags. Follow-ups can stay next to the chat, which is useful. It also adds a fourth place to park the same action unless you decide, in advance, that a reminder is only for catching up on a message, not for owning the work.
Analysis
Treat this as a trap to avoid if you hoped Teams would finally feed one trusted task list. Before it appears, write one team rule: use Remind me only to resurface a chat, and put anything you actually owe in To Do or Planner the same way you already handle flagged mail.
