Teams decisions need a home beyond the chat

A new Collab365 guide published on 29 September sets a simple rule for Microsoft Teams: keep minor decisions in chat, but record anything that changes scope, deadlines, owners, customer commitments, budget, process or priority in a shared decision log before the working day ends. It compares Teams chat, channel posts, meeting notes, Loop, OneNote, Microsoft Lists, Planner and shared Word documents so coordinators and project leads can choose a home that others can find later.
Teams chat is fast for reaching an agreement, but the decision can disappear into later conversation or remain inaccessible to colleagues who were not in the original chat. Search and pinned messages help retrieval, yet neither creates a maintained record with context, ownership and next steps. The useful shift is to separate the conversation from the record. One shared decision home per project makes commitments easier to find, explain and hand over, while Planner or To Do can track the resulting action without becoming the only place where the reason lives.
Analysis
Create one “Decision Log – [Project or Team]” in Loop, OneNote, Microsoft Lists or a shared document. Add the date, decision, context, owner, source link, next action and review date whenever a chat changes scope, deadline, owner, budget, process or priority.
