Teams and SharePoint share files but serve different work

A current SharePoint Maven guide revisits a familiar Microsoft 365 confusion: Teams and SharePoint are not competing file stores. Teams supports chat and meetings, while files opened from a team or channel are stored in SharePoint; people can use either entry point according to the work they are doing.
People often create duplicate folders, send links through several channels or argue about the “right” app because the storage relationship is invisible in the everyday interface. The result is not usually a technical fault; it is a working habit that makes documents harder to find and explain. Once a team understands that the same shared content sits behind different entry points, it can make a calmer choice. Chat-led work can start in Teams, while library-led work can start in SharePoint, without pretending that either route creates a separate source of truth.

Choose one active team and agree where people should start for conversation, meetings and shared-document work. Put that short rule in the Team description or linked SharePoint landing page.
