Teams will create AI recaps without saved transcripts

Microsoft Teams is adding AI meeting recap without saving a transcript or recording. The item was published on April 9, 2026, updated on May 26, and now lists rollout for July and August 2026; the post says the AI summary is stored in the organizer's OneDrive for a configurable period.
Until now, many teams treated AI recap, transcript, and recording as part of the same meeting-capture decision. If a meeting needed AI notes, people often assumed there would also be a retained transcript or recording trail. This change separates those choices. It may help teams use AI recap in meetings where they do not want a transcript saved, but it also creates a new artefact to explain: the transcript may not exist, yet an AI-generated summary can still be retained in OneDrive.
Analysis
Define which meeting types can use transcript-free AI recap before the feature rolls out. Also decide where final decisions and action items must be stored, because the AI recap should not become the only record of the meeting.
