Teams adds lobby check for external meeting bots

Microsoft rolled out a lobby prompt that flags external meeting assistant bots. Organizers can approve, deny, or remove them before the meeting starts. Meeting controls were recentered with drag-and-drop pinning and a two-step share confirmation. An AI recap feature that skips transcripts and recordings is now available to Copilot Premium users. The changes apply to desktop and web clients and will finish rolling out between June and August 2026.
Before these updates, external bots could join meetings without visible detection and accidental shares happened with a single click. Admins had no reliable way to spot automated participants across hundreds of daily meetings. Now the detection burden moves to organizers while the share redesign cuts one common source of oversharing. The transcript-free recap gives teams a compliant way to capture meeting notes without triggering policies that block full recordings.
Analysis
This is not a feature to ignore until it breaks something. Enable the lobby prompt for all meetings today and send organizers a single sentence telling them they now decide which bots stay.
