Teams adds channel presets to quiet notification noise

Microsoft Teams will add three channel notification presets: All new messages, Mentions and replies, and Mute. The rollout is scheduled to begin worldwide in late July 2026 and complete in August 2026 across desktop, web, and mobile. Users will also be able to tune notifications for unfollowed threads, tag mentions, channel mentions, team mentions, and channel banners.
Teams channels often become a second inbox because every channel can feel equally loud. Before this change, many users had to choose between leaving noisy defaults alone or digging through settings that were easy to ignore. The new presets make channel triage more deliberate. A project channel you own can stay loud, a useful background channel can drop to mentions and replies, and low-value channels can be muted without leaving the team entirely.
Analysis
Pick three noisy Teams channels and decide which job each one does: own, monitor, or ignore. When the presets arrive, set only the channels you truly own to All new messages and move the rest down to Mentions and replies or Mute.
