SharePoint Server update needs workflow checks

Microsoft released the August 2026 security update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, addressing information-disclosure, remote-code-execution, spoofing, security-feature-bypass, and elevation-of-privilege vulnerabilities. Microsoft says farms using SharePoint Workflow Manager must install KB5002799 before applying the cumulative update; classic Workflow Manager users also need Microsoft’s documented debug-flag step to continue using it.
A SharePoint Server patch is rarely just a maintenance window. Workflow dependencies can turn a sound security response into a broken business process if the farm’s workflow components and update order are not inventoried first. For administrators, this is a reminder to treat the post-patch check as part of the change: service health, workflow execution, and a representative business process all need evidence rather than a successful installer alone.
Analysis
Before scheduling this update, inventory every SharePoint Server farm that uses Workflow Manager, confirm the prerequisite path in Microsoft’s guidance, and run one known workflow immediately after patching.
