SharePoint report exposes broad Everyone group permissions

Published29 May29 May 2026
SharePoint report exposes broad Everyone group permissions

Microsoft is adding a SharePoint report for item-level permissions granted to the Everyone and Everyone except external users special groups. The roadmap item is for SharePoint Advanced Management admins and lists general availability for June 2026.

Broad internal permissions are easy to miss because they often look normal until sensitive content is copied, inherited, or indexed by search and Copilot. This report gives admins a sharper way to find oversharing risk before it becomes an incident. It is especially relevant for Copilot readiness because broadly readable content can become broadly retrievable through AI-assisted search and chat.

Analysis

Run the report first against sites that hold HR, finance, commercial, or leadership material. Treat findings as a review queue, not a bulk permission removal exercise.
