SharePoint autofill applies approved terms while files arrive

Laura Rogers has published a hands-on walkthrough of SharePoint Autofill using managed metadata. She connects a library column to an approved term set, lets the service classify uploaded policy documents, and shows where human checking, pay-as-you-go controls, and prompt testing still matter.
Managed metadata is useful only when people apply it consistently, and manual tagging is often the first step that disappears during a busy migration or daily upload process. Autofill can save the chosen term as normal SharePoint metadata for search, filtering and downstream workflows. Microsoft currently limits a mapped term set to its first 100 terms, so a tidy taxonomy and a small reviewed pilot matter more than switching the feature on everywhere.
Analysis
Choose one non-critical library and one term set, then test 20 representative files. Record mismatches, refine the prompt, and set a monthly spend cap before processing a migration batch.
