SharePoint authoritative sites can guide Copilot answers

Microsoft is adding Authoritative Sites for SharePoint. The feature lets administrators designate trusted SharePoint sites so their content is prioritised across Copilot Chat and Copilot Search, with preview in May 2026 and general availability in June 2026.
Copilot quality depends heavily on which content it treats as trustworthy. In many tenants, policy documents, project notes, drafts, and outdated copies all compete for attention. Authoritative Sites gives admins a practical lever for improving answers without pretending every site is equally reliable. The harder work is deciding which sites deserve that status and cleaning up old content that might still be discoverable.
Analysis
Make a short candidate list of sites that should be treated as source-of-truth content. Check ownership, freshness, permissions, and duplicate content before marking anything authoritative.
