Project Online reaches its final migration deadline in September

Microsoft will retire Project Online on 30 September 2026. The retirement applies to the cloud service and its Project Web App sites; Project desktop, Project Server and Planner are not included. Existing organisations must export or migrate the schedules, timesheets, reports, workflows and integrations they still need.
Project Online is built on SharePoint, so responsibility often lands with the Microsoft 365 or SharePoint team even when nobody carries a Project administrator title. A forgotten Project Web App site can still hold live schedules, documents, timesheets, reports and workflow dependencies. Moving users to Planner does not automatically preserve that estate. The final weeks need an explicit decision for every site: migrate it, export the records that matter or document why it can be allowed to close.
Analysis
Inventory Project Online licences and Project Web App sites now. For each site, record its owner, active projects, reports, workflows, integrations and agreed export or migration route before 30 September.
