Power BI adds Fluent 2 theme for cleaner report visuals

Microsoft released a Fluent 2 base theme preview for Power BI. The theme applies modern defaults including a grey canvas, rounded corners, better spacing, and wider page sizes. New reports created after the update start with these settings automatically. Dropdown slicers and style presets are also included. The change is currently in preview and mainly affects new pages and reports rather than existing ones.
Before this update, analysts spent time manually adjusting colours, borders, and spacing on every new report to meet basic professional standards. The result was visual inconsistency across dashboards that leadership noticed immediately. The new theme removes that initial formatting step for fresh reports. However, it does nothing to address the deeper problem of inherited reports with undocumented Power Query steps and fragile data models that still take hours to refresh.
Analysis
Ignore the new theme until your data model is actually usable. Delete the inherited 200-step report, rebuild the core tables as a simple star schema from the source files, then apply the Fluent 2 theme to the clean version.
