Power Apps plans online Dataverse access for canvas apps

Microsoft’s 2026 release plan lists online mode for Dataverse-connected canvas apps as a public preview for August and general availability for September. The plan says the capability is enabled by administrators, makers, or analysts and cautions that planned dates can change.
Dataverse builders should not assume that a planned release is already available in every environment. If an app’s workflow depends on users being online at a particular point, that decision affects how you test, support and explain the app before a wider rollout. The timing makes this a watch item rather than a reason to rebuild a working app. It is most relevant to canvas apps backed by Dataverse, not the many simple apps that stay on SharePoint lists.
Analysis
If you have a Dataverse canvas app, note where the job truly needs online access and prepare one realistic test case for the August preview; keep the current path until the feature is present in your environment.
