Power Apps modern controls change property names and when OnChange fires

Microsoft has been rolling updated modern controls into canvas apps since February 2026, with documentation dated 8 September 2026. The new versions rename properties, move some values to enums, and change how controls behave. Affected controls include Text Input, Number Input, Date Picker, Combo Box, Radio, Tab list, Link, Info button, Progress bar, and Form. Notable shifts include OnChange running on blur or focus out, changed TriggerOutput defaults, removal of DisplayMode on some controls, and new styling properties. Mobile-format canvases also pick up mobile-optimized defaults automatically. Power Apps Studio shows update notices with Learn more links and an inline Update action. Form gains extra screen templates and clearer required-field indicators. Gallery and classic Dropdown still trail with later fixes.
Before these versions, many makers treated modern controls like stable Excel-style fields. You could wire OnChange, DisplayMode, and form submit patterns once, copy them across screens, and expect the same timing when a user typed, tabbed away, or saved. After the update, the same formulas can fire at different moments or reference properties that no longer exist until you accept the control upgrade. That is less about prettier Fluent 2 theming and more about whether your SharePoint-backed form still validates, resets, and patches on the first real user pass. Consistency and accessibility improve once you are on the new versions, but only after you absorb the rename and behavior tax.
Analysis
Treat this as a maintenance trap, not a reason to rebuild the app. Open each production canvas app in Studio, update one modern control type you actually use (start with Form and Text Input or Combo Box), then retest OnChange, required fields, and submit or Patch paths before publishing.
