Power Apps brings SAP customer context into Outlook

Power Apps brings SAP customer context into Outlook

Microsoft published a reference architecture for placing a Power Apps canvas app inside the Outlook reading pane and connecting it to SAP CRM or S/4HANA. It uses per-user access through a custom connector so people can look up customer records, create activities and save email context without retyping it.

Many app requests start as a simple “show this customer detail in Outlook” ask, then become an uncontrolled integration project. This pattern makes the boundary visible: SAP remains the system of record and the app handles only the task in front of the user.\n\nThe useful lesson is not to copy the architecture wholesale. It is to decide early who owns the connector, identity mapping, audit trail and change testing before a helpful canvas app becomes a fragile shared shortcut.

Analysis

If Outlook-to-SAP handoffs are still manual, map one repeatable email action first. Check whether your SAP API and per-user identity model can support it before designing the canvas screen.
