Power Apps adds online mode for Dataverse canvas apps

Microsoft says Power Apps will let offline-first canvas apps switch between offline and online modes. The feature is planned for public preview in June 2026 and general availability in July 2026, with online mode off by default.
Offline-first apps have been useful for field and frontline scenarios, but they also create a practical tradeoff: users may not see the latest Dataverse data until sync catches up. This gives makers a way to keep the offline safety net while letting connected users work against fresher data. The risk is that app behaviour now depends more visibly on connection state, so makers need to design prompts, training, and testing around that switch.
Analysis
Pick one existing offline-first canvas app and map the screens where stale Dataverse data causes real confusion. When preview arrives, test online mode there first rather than enabling it across every offline app.
