Power Apps adds direct flow calls for React developers

Power Apps Code Apps now lets developers call Power Automate cloud flows straight from React code. The calls use typed inputs and outputs with IntelliSense support. Flows must be solution-aware and users need the App Opener security role in Dataverse. The feature is only available in preview environments. The change was announced on May 18 2026 and gives access to more than 1500 Power Platform connectors without writing custom API code.
Until now the gap between citizen developers and professional developers was mostly about formulas and layout. This update shifts the advantage further toward people who already write React and understand typed interfaces. Citizen developers who were already struggling with basic canvas apps now face a widening divide where the platform's newest capabilities are built for a different skill set entirely.
Analysis
Skip the Code Apps preview and stop watching videos about it. Spend the next two weeks finishing one complete canvas app that connects to SharePoint, handles a simple approval flow, and uses a basic component for the header.
