Power Apps adds Data Grid modern control for canvas apps
Microsoft has released the Data Grid modern control in preview for canvas apps. It lets builders show records from sources such as SharePoint lists in a scrollable grid with sorting and search functions built in. The control is part of a broader set of modern controls that aim for better styling, accessibility and performance than the classic versions.
Builders have long struggled to make gallery controls behave like proper data tables, spending time on formulas for sorting and layouts that break on different screen sizes. This new control provides those table features directly, changing the approach to data presentation in apps, though preview features often require extra testing to ensure they work reliably with enterprise data volumes.
Analysis
This preview tool offers little advantage over well-built galleries for most internal apps right now. Avoid integrating it into live projects until it reaches general availability. Instead, spend time creating a reusable component for data displays using current controls to maintain consistency across your apps.
