Power Apps makers can now define custom MCP-powered tools and rich UI widgets for app-based conversations in Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Microsoft's May 2026 Power Platform update introduced public preview support for custom tools and rich UI for app-based conversations in Power Apps. The feature lets makers expose app-specific business logic and Fluent-based UI widgets through an app MCP server and declarative agent.
For non-developer Power Apps builders, Copilot has often been strongest at answering questions or retrieving app data rather than safely completing app-specific work. This moves Copilot toward guided, action-oriented app experiences. It also raises the bar for app design: the useful part is not just turning on Copilot, but deciding which app actions, context and approval points are safe enough to expose.
Analysis
Pick one model-driven app and list three actions users repeatedly ask for. Decide which one is low-risk enough to test as a custom Copilot tool before exposing anything more sensitive.
