Open-source AI tool automates DAX formulas in Power BI

A new update to an open-source Power BI development tool allows AI agents to automatically write DAX formulas. Version 0.22.0 of the agentic plugins introduces a dedicated DAX skill contributed by developer Justin Martin. The release cuts the time required to build data models and format reports from days to hours. It also includes a revamped command-line interface to help users manage their Power BI files more efficiently. The AI requires highly specific prompts to function properly. It handles the technical formula generation, but it will fail if given vague or open-ended design requests.
Until now, transitioning from Excel to Power BI meant hitting a brutal learning curve. Analysts spent hours staring at broken formulas or wrestling with filter contexts just to build a simple year-over-year growth measure. Getting accurate numbers required deep technical knowledge that most business users simply did not have the time to learn. This release shifts the burden from writing code to defining business logic. You no longer need to memorise complex DAX syntax, provided you can clearly explain the math you want the AI to perform. It turns the hardest part of building a dashboard into a translation exercise.
Analysis
Do not treat this AI as a magic wand that excuses a messy data model. Use the plugin to generate the complex DAX measures that usually stall your progress, but invest the hours you save into structuring your tables properly first. If your foundation is clean, this tool will bridge the gap between your Excel skills and a finished dashboard.
