OneDrive adds Copilot summaries for documents and PDFs

Microsoft has embedded Copilot tools into OneDrive that generate summaries for documents, PDFs, images, and whiteboard content. Users can also compare file versions, recap meetings stored in the service, and run custom prompts against PDF text. The update includes Markdown file support along with mobile OCR for text scanning and improved offline search. Some semantic search options remain limited to Copilot+ PCs, and several capabilities are still in preview for Insider users.
Workers previously opened files one by one in OneDrive to locate decisions or extract details, often switching back to email or task lists to record what they found. The AI now performs the first pass of reading and extraction inside the same library, which could reduce context switching only for those who already keep project files in OneDrive rather than scattered across chats and inboxes.
Analysis
Treat this as another potential time sink until proven otherwise. Open OneDrive on your laptop right now, select one recent PDF or meeting document, and run the summary prompt to check whether the output actually surfaces the decisions you would have hunted for manually.
