Older Power BI builds lose cloud saving in October

Microsoft says that from October 2026, Power BI Desktop versions from March 2026 or earlier will no longer save and share files to OneDrive or SharePoint. The change retires the old file-picker experience, and Microsoft advises updating Power BI Desktop to retain this workflow.
Report authors can keep an older Desktop build running for months because the files themselves still open and refresh. That can hide a dependency on an old cloud-saving path until a routine publish or handoff suddenly stops working. The deadline affects collaboration rather than the report model alone. Teams that standardise Desktop versions or package reports for other authors should treat the upgrade as a shared workflow change and test it before October.
Analysis
Inventory report authors still running March 2026 or earlier Power BI Desktop builds, update one representative machine and test its normal OneDrive or SharePoint save-and-share route.
