Okta launches identity controls for AI agents

Published1 May1 May 2026
Okta launches identity controls for AI agents

Okta has released general availability of Okta for AI Agents, a system to manage identities for AI software that acts on its own. It integrates with Okta's Universal Directory to discover, onboard, protect and govern agents across different cloud platforms, software services and frameworks. Features include least-privilege access tokens, automated access reviews, a one-click kill switch and detailed audit logs. The company cites surveys showing 88 percent of organisations face agent-related incidents, yet only 22 percent properly govern agent identities.

Before, AI agents multiplied unchecked, relying on scattered secrets and manual oversight that bred incidents and forced teams into endless quality checks on unreliable outputs. Now Okta's controls standardise agent identities like human ones, enabling secure autonomous runs that cut secret sprawl and rogue behaviour without constant intervention. This shifts workflows from fragile prompt chains to governed agents, quietly reclaiming hours lost to context switching and QA drudgery that non-technical managers know too well.

Analysis

This plugs the security hole that's made your Zapier and Claude workflows feel like ticking bombs, letting you encode expertise reliably without coding or imposter dread. Skip the hype and trial Okta's AI Agents on your top context-switching automation today: map it to their directory, set a kill switch, and measure the QA time drop by Friday.
