New Outlook lets you accept meetings from the inbox list

Microsoft’s New Outlook for Windows Targeted Release notes dated 11 September 2026 say you can respond to meeting invitations from the message list context menu. You no longer have to open the invite first to accept, decline, or mark it tentative. The same notes add a Folder pane section inside mail settings and let you edit or delete several People categories in one go. The 18 September 2026 notes are functionality and performance fixes only. Matching items also appear in the standard New Outlook release notes, so the change will follow Targeted Release then the wider ring.
Meeting invites used to sit in the same pile as ordinary mail. Opening each one to RSVP broke triage, mixed calendar decisions with reading, and left flags and unread counts looking urgent when the only job was a yes or no. The list menu puts that yes or no next to the other inbox clicks. Folder pane controls moving into mail settings will confuse anyone who still hunts for layout on the left of the window. Bulk category edits in People matter only if you already colour-code contacts. This is a small client change, not a new meeting recap or task workflow.
Analysis
Treat this as a triage habit to test, not a feature to study. When the update appears, right-click one pending invite in the inbox list, RSVP from the menu, and open Mail settings once so you know where the Folder pane now lives.
