Microsoft adds classic Outlook style to new Outlook

Microsoft says a classic Outlook style is rolling out to new Outlook and Outlook on the web. It is available in targeted release by late September 2026, with worldwide rollout planned from then through late October, and users can turn it on in Settings > Appearance.
Moving from classic Outlook to the newer client has changed the visual language, layout and interaction patterns people use all day. Teams that are already asking people to switch have had few ways to reduce that familiar-interface friction without delaying the change itself. The reported style is a transition aid rather than a return to the old desktop app. It may make a move feel less disruptive, but it also means training, screenshots and support guidance should show both appearances while users can choose or receive different defaults.
Analysis
In a targeted-release test account, enable the style in Settings > Appearance and capture the few screens your team uses most. Add the before-and-after screenshots to the next new-Outlook migration note.
