Microsoft will remove Power BI Q&A in December 2026

Microsoft announced that the Q&A natural language feature will be removed from Power BI in December 2026. No extension or grace period has been offered. The company directs users to Copilot for Power BI as the replacement. Copilot requires its own licensing and works only on semantic models that meet additional readiness rules. Existing Q&A tiles and custom questions will stop functioning after the cutoff with no migration path provided.
Before the change, many analysts used Q&A as a safety valve. Managers who wanted a one-off total or slice could type the question instead of filing a request or exporting to Excel. The feature masked gaps in the data model and let the analyst avoid writing every measure in advance. After December 2026 that escape hatch closes. Every question that used to be handled by typing will land back on the analyst, either as new DAX or as a visual that must already exist. Teams that never documented which questions Q&A was quietly answering will face the largest surprise workload.

Stop treating Q&A as free insurance. Open every published report, list the questions that currently route through Q&A, and build the explicit measures or drill paths that answer them before the feature vanishes.
