Microsoft updates the New Outlook versus Classic Outlook feature list

Microsoft Support refreshed its official feature comparison between new Outlook and classic Outlook on 23 September 2026. The table covers accounts, calendar, folders, add-ins, and Teams, and Microsoft still says not every feature is listed. COM add-ins and content forms remain unsupported in new Outlook. Teams meeting scheduling is built in rather than a separate add-in, and meeting chat is listed as available in new Outlook but not in classic. Public folders and search folders are only partially available in new Outlook. Other rows are marked Upcoming, Revised, Investigating, or Partially available.
Until now, many people treated New Outlook as a visual refresh and assumed classic habits would follow. Search folders, public folders, and COM add-ins were the quiet reasons a switch felt broken, even when mail still arrived. The September matrix makes those gaps official rather than rumour. Meeting chat and native Teams scheduling are real New Outlook advantages, but they do not replace missing add-ins or half-working folder tools. The page is a parity check, not a green light.
Analysis
This is a change to act on only if your company is pushing New Outlook, and a trap if you switch for meeting chat while still depending on COM add-ins or search folders. Open the comparison page and tick the three rows that match how you actually work before you accept a rollout.
