Microsoft previews business skills for Dataverse agents

Microsoft updated preview documentation for business skills in Power Apps on 6 June 2026. Business skills let makers define process instructions, descriptions, and resource files that agents can use through the Dataverse MCP server. The feature requires a Managed Environment, Dataverse intelligence, and Dataverse MCP server configuration. Skills are user-owned by default and can be shared with users or teams, or made visible to the organization. Microsoft says preview features are not meant for production use and may have restricted functionality.
Before this preview, most makers had no clean place to store the process rules an agent should follow. They either buried instructions in prompts or left the knowledge outside the app, where it could drift from the actual workflow. Business skills move that process knowledge into the Dataverse layer. That is useful for teams already building around Dataverse, but it also widens the gap for SharePoint-backed canvas apps where the maker still needs to solve formulas, permissions, and mobile layout before any agent skill becomes relevant.
Analysis
Check your environment list before chasing this preview. If your current apps are SharePoint-backed canvas apps, treat business skills as a Dataverse planning signal, not something to bolt onto the app you are trying to finish this week.
