Microsoft retires current Copilot partner certifications in favor of agent-focused ones

Microsoft announced that the existing Microsoft 365 Copilot specialization will be renamed. Two new certifications replace the prior ones from July 2026: Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect (AB-100) and AI Agent Builder Associate (AB-620). Existing certifications expire at the end of June 2026. The change applies only to partner program requirements. The move aligns partner credentials with Microsoft's focus on agent capabilities inside Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Before this change, Copilot in Power Apps mostly helped with formula suggestions, screen generation, and quick explanations. Builders could treat it as an optional accelerator that left the final logic under their control. After July 2026 the certification path and product direction both point toward agents that act on data and trigger flows with less direct oversight. Apps built today that lean on generated formulas or Copilot-created structures may behave differently once those agents replace the current assistance layer.
Analysis
The agent shift will make blind trust in Copilot output more dangerous, not less. Open every app that contains Copilot-written formulas or screens, replace the generated pieces with explicit Patch, Filter, and SubmitForm logic you can read, and remove any delegation warnings before the new agent model arrives.
