Microsoft retires AI update suggestions in SharePoint FAQ web part

Microsoft will retire the Content Update flow in the SharePoint FAQ web part. That flow let page authors compare existing answers with selected grounding sources and review AI-suggested edits. Suggestions were never auto-published. Rollout starts mid-September 2026 and finishes by late September 2026 for Worldwide and GCC. After retirement, authors edit FAQ answers by hand. Existing FAQ content and any suggestions already accepted stay in place. FAQ generation, import, and normal manual editing remain. There is no admin center setting, PowerShell switch, or direct replacement.
Intranet FAQ blocks on communication sites and news pages have been an easy place to show lightweight AI help without a full Copilot programme. Authors who used Content Update treated it as a quick freshness check against source pages, not as a governance control. That optional check is going away on a short clock. Published FAQ web parts keep working, so end users will not notice. The real shift is on the author side: any training, Loom videos, or intranet playbooks that still point at the Content Update step will be wrong by late September, and support will hear from the few people who relied on it.

This is a training and expectations fix, not a tenant-wide cleanup. Scan your communication sites and author guides for FAQ Content Update steps, then send one short note to page owners before mid-September so they know manual edits are the only path left.
