Microsoft puts Dataverse inside more AI coding tools

Microsoft expanded its Dataverse plugin for coding agents to the OpenAI and Codex marketplaces. The same plugin was already available for Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot. Developers can describe Dataverse work in natural language inside those tools. Requests can run through a Dataverse MCP server, the Python SDK, PAC CLI, or the Dataverse CLI, with least-privilege patterns and normal Dataverse permissions. The update is aimed at data operations, schema changes, solution lifecycle tasks, and environment admin without leaving the coding agent.
Until now, serious Dataverse work still meant hopping between maker portals, docs, CLIs, and whatever AI chat you preferred. Citizen builders on SharePoint largely stayed outside that loop, while pro developers treated Dataverse as a separate admin surface. That split is narrowing for people who already live in coding agents, not for people shipping simple canvas apps. Microsoft is standardising how agents talk to Dataverse across more tools, which signals where platform investment is going. It does not make SharePoint galleries faster, formulas clearer, or approvals easier for a first internal tracker.

Treat this as a watch item, not a build task. Unless your app already sits on Dataverse and you have a real schema or admin job to do, skip the marketplace plugin and keep finishing the SharePoint canvas app your team will actually open.
