Microsoft pauses planned Excel Copilot agent menu change

Microsoft paused the rollout of an update that would have let Microsoft 365 Copilot users in Excel reach additional agents such as Researcher or Analyst through the three-dot menu in the header. The change is on hold as of the June 2, 2026 Message Center update. The existing chat-only Copilot experience in Excel remains unchanged. No admin action is required. Microsoft will post a new notice when the rollout resumes.
Before this pause, users already faced a widening split between the simple chat experience they could use today and the agent features Microsoft kept promising for later. Most people still lacked clear rules for when the basic version was worth opening at all. The delay keeps the current limited tool stable. That removes one more moving part while teams figure out which Excel tasks actually benefit from Copilot and which ones still need manual checks or a different tool.
Analysis
Stop treating every announced agent feature as the missing piece. Pick one recurring Excel task you already do, write down the exact prompt you use plus the three checks you perform on the output, and treat that pattern as the baseline until Microsoft proves the extra agents are both available and reliable.
