Power BI reporting skills let AI agents build reports

Microsoft published a preview of AI-powered Power BI reporting skills on 8 June 2026 and updated it on 10 June. The Power BI authoring plugin in Skills for Fabric lets agent tools such as GitHub Copilot CLI author reports, write schema-correct PBIR files, reload Power BI Desktop, capture screenshots, and iterate before publishing to Fabric. The setup requires registering the Skills for Fabric marketplace and installing the Power BI authoring plugin.
Before this preview, report changes usually flowed through Power BI Desktop, a workspace, a gateway, or a documented Power Query and DAX change. Even when the process was messy, there was usually a person touching the report. Agent-based report creation adds another route for changes to appear in files and workspaces. For analysts already explaining why totals differ between Excel and a dashboard, the useful question is not whether the agent can build a report; it is whether the change can be reviewed, rolled back and explained.
Analysis
Keep agent-built reports out of signed-off workspaces until you have a change log, a reviewer, and a rollback copy of the PBIR files.
