Microsoft maps Power Automate approval and monitoring upgrades then retires wave release plans

Microsoft maps Power Automate approval and monitoring upgrades then retires wave release plans

Microsoft’s Power Platform 2025 release wave 2 plan for Power Automate lists planned work on approvals, run monitoring, Copilot help when building flows, and connector updates. General availability is staggered, with windows running from about October 2025 into early 2026 rather than a single ship date. The same Learn page now states that classic Release Plans stop publishing from September 2026. New Power Platform capabilities will move to an always-on AI at Work roadmap, while older wave pages stay up only as history. Many line items remain planned or in preview. Real access still depends on region, licence tier, and whether an admin has turned the feature on.

Before this wave, citizen builders chasing approvals and silent failures had to invent reminders, escalations, and run checks with conditions, extra actions, and hope. Tutorials showed the happy path. Production pain lived in run history, vague errors, and flows that only one person owned. What changed is not a free rewrite of every flow. It is a clearer signal that Microsoft is pushing native approval and monitoring improvements into the product, while the old wave-plan habit of planning work from a PDF is ending. If you wait for every roadmap row to go green before you add alerts and shared ownership, quiet failures keep costing you trust. If you treat GA approval and monitoring pieces as the only ones worth adopting, you cut babysitting without betting the process on preview Copilot demos.

Analysis

This is a trend to watch, not a reason to rebuild working flows. Open the wave 2 planned-features list, note only approval escalation and run-monitoring items that are GA or enabled in your tenant, and on your noisiest approval or SharePoint flow add one clear failure path plus a named co-owner before you touch anything Copilot-related.
