Planner Agent gives admins another plan cleanup job

Microsoft announced on 15 June 2026 that Planner Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot is rolling out to general availability for Microsoft 365 Copilot licensed users. The agent can find plans, update task names, status, due dates and priority, organise work around goals, and keep AI-generated changes in draft mode for user review. Microsoft says Planner Agent works across Microsoft 365 apps including Teams, Loop, and SharePoint.
Before this release, messy Planner boards were mostly a productivity problem. Old plans, unclear owners, duplicate project spaces, and stale tasks created confusion, but they did not usually act on behalf of users. Planner Agent changes the risk shape. Once Copilot can suggest or draft task changes inside existing plans, admins need to know which plans are still live, who owns them, and whether those plans are connected to active Teams and SharePoint workspaces.
Analysis
List the Planner plans attached to your busiest Teams first. Confirm each plan has an owner, archive dead plans, and tell users to keep agent-generated changes in draft review until the team has agreed which plan is authoritative.
